Moving to the area? Down on holiday? Why not come to your local rugby club.
Wadebridge Camels began their preseason on 1 st July. With additional input from Dave Elston, coaches John May and Julian Wilce are able to add plenty of variety in these sessions. John will be focussing on the overall game style whilst Wilce will concentrate on the fitness and Dave, using his vast knowledge of rugby league, will concentrate on defence and physicality at the breakdown.
The sessions have been taking part at the local playing fields whilst the pitch is given time to re-seed. From 29 th July onwards both Tuesday and Thursday sessions will take place at the clubs new training ground a few miles out of Wadebridge at St.Kew Highway. There are pitches marked out and changing rooms for the players to get changed.
Numbers haven't been overwhelming due to the occupations of our players. Farmers need to be combining and people who are offered overtime can't say no.
“ I don't mind their absence at the moment as I know their work is physically demanding so they are keeping actively fit.” Julian Wilce
What is satisfying is the fact that there are a large amount of new faces arriving from our youth set up. These players are now able to play senior rugby and some want to step up to the mark. We have relied heavily on our youth set up over the past few years and they haven't failed. We need to give these players the opportunity.
The sessions are fun, active and effective. They work on the player's fitness and make them more physical. This will continue up to the first match on the 23 rd August. To coincide in these sessions will be the introductory of the new laws so that the players are aware of them and how best we can use them!
